2024 FLY-IN - CANCELLED

Hi, Brad the airport manager here. To provide a bit more context, everyone here is a volunteer, myself included—no one collects a dime for their work at the airport. Unless retired, we all have full-time jobs to make ends meet, just like anyone else. The Fly-In was essentially a second full-time volunteer job for many folks, requiring countless hours each week throughout the year. This included procuring sponsorships, booking seminars and exhibitors, coordinating with town officials and vendors, and much more.

On top of this, many volunteers also took on a third full-time job of managing airport operations, handling daily maintenance, and everything else that goes into running a non-profit organization.

Last year, we faced a significant loss with the passing of Bill Thomas. Bill was instrumental in making the Fly-In a success each year. While many valiantly worked to fill his shoes, his wealth of knowledge and the time he dedicated were irreplaceable. It just isn’t possible to fill those shoes without a totally unreasonable level of sacrifice from the current organizing group.

We deeply appreciate and thank all the volunteers who have dedicated countless hours over the years to make the Fly-In possible. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed.

We love the Fly-In, but we’re also thoroughly exhausted. We will be back, maybe not in the same form, but we will return. Our hope is to organize smaller events throughout the year to reconnect with grassroots aviation and education. Watch this space as we build what’s next!

SIMSBURY FLY-IN, FOOD TRUCK FEST & CAR SHOW

Welcome to the largest event of its kind in the Northeastern USA!

We are like a special kind of country fair, built around displays of 750+ great airplanes and cars of virtually every type and vintage.  We have 150 exhibitors, sponsors and advertisers, and offer many fun activities to interest the entire family.

We feature hundreds of airplanes and cars you can see up close and meet their proud owners. Our airplanes range from antiques dating back to the 1920's, to homebuilts, helicopters, small former military aircraft, and brand new airplanes on display by dealers. Our Car Show features old autos, brand new exotic vehicles, hot rods, muscle cars, ex-military vehicles, and more than 30 new cars on display. Airplane and car owners are urged to display their vehicles for judging, and we award trophies in many categories.   Pets on leashes are welcome, and we even provide a watering station.  Handicapped parking and restrooms are available. There is no entry fee, but your donation is appreciated.  Nearby parking is available at $15, with proceeds to benefit the Boy/Girl Scouts and The Town Farm.
