FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Have a question about the airport? Check here first!
I REALLY LIKE WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND WOULD LIKE TO HELP SUPPORT THE AIRPORT AND ITSÂ CAUSE. WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?
We're so happy to hear that!! There's two main ways people can help the airport:
Financial contributions - We are a 501(c)(3) charity. Donations from the public and businesses are a massive help in keeping our doors open for generations of aviators to come. If you'd like to donate, there's a couple of very simple ways to do so:
Venmo - you can find us at @simsburyairport or just click the word Venmo above.
Paypal - Click "send" and search for Simsbury Airport Association Inc
Volunteer - Volunteers are the backbone of our organization, especially for the Fly In. If you're interested in volunteering, click here.
I WOULD LIKE TO BECOME A PILOT. WHERE DO I START?
That's great!! The best place to start is by contacting a flight school. We have one based out of Simsbury Airport called Future Flyers Of CT. Contact them to begin your journey!
DO YOU OFFER INTRODUCTORY OR SCENIC FLIGHTS?
The airport does not, no. However, contact the Future Flyers flight school and they may be able to help.
I'M A PPG PILOT. CAN I LAND AT THE AIRPORT?
Yes! We have plenty of room in our West field to accomodate PPG pilots. In fact, Dave Nickerson of You Can Fly PPG operates out of Simsbury Airport!
Side note: the video at the top of the You Can Fly PPG is taken in our West field.
I'M A CERTIFIED PILOT VISITING THE AREA. CAN I RENT A PLANE?
The airport does not have planes for rent. However, the flight school does! Contact them for more information.
I'M A PILOT MOVING INTO THE AREA. DO YOU HAVE A FLYING CLUB?
We do not. But, we are a member of the E.A.A.; our chapter is 324. If your are interested in joining, contact Mark Ransted for more info.
I WOULD LIKE TO TIE DOWN MY PLANE ON THE GROUNDS. WHAT'S THE COST?
(As of October 2023)Â The current price to tie down a plane is $130/month.

If your child is 16 years old or over, they can start right off with the Future Flyers Of CT flight school.
WHAT KIND OF AVIATION FUEL IS OFFERED AT THE AIRPORT? HOW CAN I GET SOME?
Currently only 100LL (low lead) fuel is offered at the airport. Fuel is dispensed from a self-serve kiosk at the top of the taxiway next to the Microchip building (please DO NOT park in the Microchip parking lot). All major credit cards are accepted; no cash is accepted.

For your safety and protection, a spill kit, fire extinguisher, and emergency stop button are present at the fuel kiosk.
I HAVE A CLASSIC CAR. CAN I DRIVE IT TO THE AIRPORT AND PUT YOUR GAS IN IT?
NO!! Aviation gas is for use in aircraft or to be put in portable gas cans.
CAN I CHARTER A FLIGHT?
No. The airport itself does not offer charter flights. However, the flight school may be able to accomodate you or get you in touch with a person or company that can. Contact the flight school for more information.
CAN I GET A TOUR OF THE AIRPORT?
Simsbury Airport is a small, community airport so there's really not much to tour. You are, however, welcome to come to the airport and take a walk around the grounds. Please DO NOT walk near or on the runway. Planes can land at any time and you may not see or hear them until it's too late.
CAN WE WATCH PLANES TAKE OFF AND LAND?
Of course! Simsbury Airport is proud to be a community airport and is always welcoming to visitors. When you first pull on to the property you'll see the Webster Memorial Picnic Area immediately on your left. That's a great place to sit and watch planes take off and land for as long as you like!
IS THERE A SPECIFIC TIME THAT'S BETTER TO WATCH THE PLANES TAKE OFF AND LAND?
There is no set day or time that's better than the other. That said, on average, planes are more active in the morning and during the weekends. Keep in mind that weather and wind conditions can and will change that.
I HAVE A QUESTION NOT MENTIONED HERE. WHO CAN I REACH OUT TO?
Feel free to send us an email and we'll get back to you as soon as we can with an answer!!
